Up for auction is an interesting insert from the Chicago Evening Post regarding the first Columbian Half Doolar struct.Apparently the Evening Post came up with the idea for companies to place bids for the very first coin struck. The Remington Typewriter company placed the highest bid of 10 thousand dollars and one the contest. The coin was delivered to them at the fair with a letter signed by the direxctor of the U.S. Mint attesting to its authenticity. This flier relates the entire story which is very interesting. The insert measures 2.75 x 11 .75 inches and is in nice condition with a one inch tear at left center and several folds.
