This is a nicely done life drawing of a young woman in tone seated wearing clothes (which makes it unusual). On rare occasion a model wouldn't show and a student would pose until they were able to get another model. This woman was most likely a student in Carmean's life drawing class at Art Center where he taught for many years. Carmean was expert at drawing drapery and would sometimes devote a class to just that - capturing the folds of the fabric as it covered the human form. He maintained that you still had to know how the body underneath was influencing the hang of the drapery. He would always make a note of where the fabric was hitting the underlying form and would discreetly accent these areas. This is why his drapery always looks so good, because you essentially draw the figure and the drapery at the same time. This drawing is exceptional because it is one of the few examples where Carmean draws fabric. The drawing is 18 x 24", is signed and dated and is in good condition.
