Enormous memory jar/vessel umbrella stand like thing. If anyone has an ideas what this vessel is, please email me. It is a large metal vessel encrusted with pottery and ceramic shards, sea shells, mirrors, glass ware, bits from costume jewelry, colored glass, an Ozark Lake pin, a silver charm of Jesus Christ King, animal teeth, an oyster shell, and parts from three doll heads. Dark green putty was used to attach the parts to this vessel. I've owned this for approximately eight years. I bought it from a friend who used to collect folk art in the Michigan. I don't know if it made in MIchigan. I suppose the Ozark Lake pin might be a signature stating it was made in Missouri. But the pin could just be a souvenir from a trip thru Central Missouri. All I know is that it is an old piece. I'm guessing it was made around 1930-1940's. The longer you look at it, the more interesting it becomes. You start to realize how many different parts there are. Not everything is in perfect condition. Oddly some of the smaller sea shells are broken. Some ornate tortoise shell colored thing with scroll work is mostly gone. I'd say the objects are 95% intact. I just noticed that the charm, pin and jewelry bits were added at a later date. The putty around them is black rather than green. So the vessel is older than these pieces.
The top is 10.5" (26.67 cm) across. The base is 12.25" (31.11 cm) across. And the vessel is 29.75" (75.56 cm) tall.
This item is heavy and delicate, so I will have to use a shipping company to pack and ship it. I got two estimates for the service. For any of the five Boroughs of New York City, the shipping would be around $70. To Beverly Hills, California, it would be around $85. I live in RI, so the farther away you are from me, the more it will be. If you live in major Eastern city on Canada like Toronto it will be around $95. I require insurance to be paid on this item which is $1 for every hundred dollars in value, minus the first hundred. So if this sold for $1,600, the insurance would be $15. For reference it might be possible to be shipped overseas to a major city like Tokyo, Japan, for around $400-$500, depending upon cost of flights at the time of shipment. Costs would go up for smaller towns.
For a short period of time time I had a very small memory jar collection, that this belonged to. I sold the jars off four years ago. This is the only item I kept. I hope to find a happy home for this impressive item.
