Old Primitive Folk Art Antique Bird House Americana
This is an old bird house, that came from the North Woods of Minnesota. It was constructed from saw mill slab wood. This type of slab wood is left over after the logs are cut into boards, a popular material for bird house builders. The house is heavily weathered and slightly fragile.
There is a 1 1/4" diameter hole in the front, the the floor extends out forward 1" to serve as a perch. The house is held together with a hodge podge of different small nails, many of the nails have backed out 1/8" or so, I have not pushed them back in, one could do this easily. This house measures 6" tall, by 7" wide and 11" deep. This house is physically stable. The primitive folk art style of this house, would make it very attractive in any setting. This bird house, would make a good addition to any collection or as a gift for any collector, gardener or conservationist. This house may or may not have a nest in it, in order to keep its value intact, I have not opened it. Bird House Collecting The collecting of old and antique bird houses, is bringing joy to many. But every one should remember when one old house is taken from an area, two new ones should replace it. I have built and put up many more new bird houses in my life than I have taken down, or found elsewhere and offer for sale here. Many small bird houses were built by children in various community groups, Future Farmers of America, Boy and Girl Scouts, and others. Others were built by garden clubs and other conservationist groups. The very first of the American bird houses were built by the settlers and homesteaders. But regardless of who ever built a particular bird house or just when it was built, one thing is for certain. Each an every one is a very special and wonderful thing.
