I Made Djata, 1921 - 1996, Balinese (Batuan).
Balinese Dancers. Watercolor and Ink, 11 ½ X 8 ½. Signed Lower Right. In Near-Fine condition; no tears, creases or staining to the image. Several minor stains in the margins. Laid Down on watercolor paper.
Djata was born in Bali and began his art career at the age of 15. Before beginning his pursuits as a painter, he worked as a wood carver. He studied under and worked with Walter Spies at the Pita Maha Association in 1936.
Djata’s art has achieved considerable recognition world-wide and he has received numerous awards, including art awards from Indonesian Art Institute Yogyakarta and Balinese the government in 1982, 1983 and 1985.
