Quality old american seascape painting signed Francis West. Thick oil on very dense artist board. Measures 10" x 8". ery original and talented construction. Every element is painted in a different style of texture. Ocean has very broad , wide horizontal strokes many extgending across the entire horizontal distance. As water breakls to shore, the paint builds off the surface in a short choppy texture. Rocks have upward strokes. The sky has a very interesting technique of pallat knife in sweeping circular motion. The image of clouds is formed by the mere texture of the paint. There is a very detailed use of color throughout that is blended and mixed as the stroke of paint is applied to board. This american artist is named after the historical Captain who landed in Jamestown VA in 1608. I have not researched the career data for this artist, but have found a couple examples of his works, found signature to be identical as well as the coloring and subject matter. He is not a major artist, but if all of his painting were as good as this, he might have done better. I have seen auction prices sold in the range of $200-500, larger works, but less attractive. This painting is in very good condition. Some bruising to the corners that can be covered by framing. This work is unframed. Buyer pays $8.00 mail.
