vintage THERMOMETER FRAMED PRINT
has a thermometer at the side of the photo and a gilt label below the picture: GREETINGS FROM ARTHUR NELSON Your Grocer. These pictures with a thermometer were often given to customers from around 1920-1940. This picture is difficult to identify. It appears to be a landscape that is similar to the Duluth area where the collectible was found but it really looks more like a European scene. Above whitened buildings near a harbor are high bluffs that don't appear to have any housing on them. The tower and whitewashed building in the forefront look European although this scene could be somewhere in the United States. On the back is the marking: Made by NEWTON MFG. CO. NEWTON, IOWA. The photo has tint effects, whitened buildings, brightened flower blossoms and leaves. This is within an aluminum-gray textured matting, covered with glass and framed in marbled black and gray metal. There is a strong backing to the print and a string hanger, the whole measuring 8" x 10".
In very good condition, the photo and thermometer appear to have no damage. The thermometer is close to the temperature around it whenever I check it. The frame is still strong at the corners - no shifting inside.
These collectible gifts from local businesses still look well as rustic decoration!
