"...faid to be the largeft of this whole genus, growing fometimes, to the length of fix feet, and producing a multitude of flowers..."
Original antique botanical copper plate engraving with fine hand coloring from Volume XX of Curtis's Botanical Magazine, 1804. When William Curtis published his first Magazine, it was all the rage because previous botanical references had concentrated on the more common flowers of the countryside. Curtis featured lavish and exotic flowers from all over the world that were unfamiliar to his 18th century subscribers. Only the best artists, engravers and colorists of the day were chosen to work on the Magazine.
Each print measures 5 1/2" x 9 1/4" and is printed on medium/heavy weight paper that is blank on the back. Most of the prints from this collection are in very good conditionwith bright gorgeous original coloring. If there is any light foxing or text transfer which is quite normal for the early Curtises and generally unobjectionable, you will be able to see it in the pictures. You can see any imperfections in my highly accurate pictures. A copy of the title page and original text will be included for provenance.
Two hundred year old beauty!
