Nicholas Volpe conceived the idea of producing portraits of the entire Academy Award Winners from it's humble beginnings in 1927, up to 1961. All were done in charcoal and he managed to make this stark medium work for each actor. He begin this endevor sometime in the late 1950's. By then many of the actors were no longer alive and so he searched out imagery that depicted both the actor and the role that won them fame.

This print made in 1962 is in excellent condition, measuring 9x11.

Elizibeth Taylor won her Oscar in 1960 for her role in Butterfield 8, produced by Afton-Linebrook.
