S-31   June-Bird Baiting

We are pleased to offer this exquisite print that is very finely done. The colors are great! The title is June-Bird Baiting. Early peasants are enticing birds in their trap: perhaps to collect the feathers for their plumaged hats.
The reds and blues are muted and the detail is great. The frame is 6 3/4" x 7 9/16". There is wear on the gold gilt.

On the back is a clipping that reads S-21   June-Bird Baiting engravure by Bertolozzi     G & A Richards Boston, Mass.   (framer)

It appears to be a copy of the famous Franceso Bartolozzi who was an Italian printmaker from 1725-1815. He worked in Joseph Wagner's Shop in Venice.

This was probably copied during the early 1900's as Richards  also framed many vintage silohuettes.
