Michelangelo's Dying Slave

This sculpture is a wonderful depiction of a dying or tortured slave, one of the masterpieces of Michelangelo.  Here the Master departs from his more famous depictions of the beauty and dignity of Man and instead concentrates his attention on the suffering of the Unfortunates among us.  Michelangelo is here departing from the austere Classicism of his David and is reaching into  the suffering soul of Man.
