Palenque, Mexico 590 A.D.

Surrounded by hieroglyphs, an ancient ball player demonstrates his skill and strength. The player's ability to manipulate and move the ball into stone rings, without the use of hands, was played to honor the gods with skill. The ball game represented the movements of the heavens for many pre-Hispanic peoples and, for the Maya, the game (called Ulama) had a religious significance. The ballplayer's solar headdress identifies him as one of the Hero Twins from the Maya epic Popol Vuh. It is generally believed that there were probably two version of the ball game. One was played as a sport, and probably had some betting involved. The other version was a religious re-enactment of the story of the Hero Twins in the Popol Vuh. In this case, there were probably only 2 players and the winner and looser were pre-determined. The looser was probably a captive, or a criminal. He would have been in terrible physical condition from going a long time without food. Perhaps he was even drugged. His purpose was to make the other player look good, probably a war hero or a young prince. People would have come to this event to cheer on the hero and deride and humiliate the captive, meanwhile preserving the ancient story of the Hero Twins.

Additional Important Information: This item is part of our International Treasures collection offering sculptural museum reproductions. We offer an extensive collection of museum quality reproductions of the main ancient cultures as well as Renaissance art and Bizantine icons. Our product lines include ancient Egyptian, Greek, Pre-Columbian, Oriental and Hindu, Celtic, Religious Art, Bronze Sculpture and Bizantine icons. Our emphasis is high quality, but reasonably priced items. Many of these items are exact replicas of actual museum exhibits themselves and many of them are sold in the gift shops of the very museums where the pieces they're based upon are on display.  You will find that they are not cheap, mass produced resin knock-offs,  but quality reproductions, often down to the most minute details that yourself and other art appreciators will be proud to display for many years to come.  For the making of art reproductions, our company has chosen masterpieces from the best museums all over the world: The Louvre, The British Museum, The National Archaeological Museum in Athens, The Egyptian Museum at Cairo, The New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, among others. Working to obtain very fine pieces, up to the last detail, our manufacturers only use materials and techniques that can achieve the best quality in reproducing original works of art. The finish of each reproduction, always hand made and showing tremendous craftsmanship and historical sense, is the work of an artisan. Many items are hand color detailed, and fine imported marbles are often used for the bases of our statues. Each item comes with a description card that provides background on the history, mythology, location and main characteristics of the original. We take delight in offering to the people of today the legacy of those ancient civilizations of yesterday, with all the beauty and mystery of our ancestors.

Payment Information: We gladly accept PayPal, Cashier's Checks, Money Orders, Personal Checks, and BidPay as forms of payment. If paying by personal check, your package will be held until payment has cleared – sorry – no exceptions.  We ask that payment be received within 7 days of the auction's close. As is eBay's policy, we ask that you confirm your bid within three days of the auction's close.

California residents must add sales tax, calculated at 8.25%.

Shipping & Handling: Fixed price shipping and handling is quoted in all of our items for sale - either on auction or in our store. These fees are not negotiable and non-refundable.  We do offer a shipping discount for multiple items - if you are wishing to purchase more than one item, email us before purchasing so that we may calculate your total shipping charges before you make your final decision.  We use a variety of shipping carriers so that we may offer you the most efficient and cost effective shipping terms for your particular purchase.

We anticipate a 3-5 business day handling period (the time from receiving payment and mailing information from you, to packaging up your item and delivering to the shipping carrier).  Delivery time will almost certainly depend on your location - the closer you are to our warehouse, the sooner your package will arrive.  If your item does not arrive in a reasonable amount of time, please contact us so that we can locate it for you.

Please check that your mailing address is correct on the automatic notification from Ebay.  If you're uncertain about this, email us separately with your correct mailing information.

For shipping charges to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Puerto Rico and International rates from the U.S., please contact us prior to bidding.  Thank you.

Returns & Refunds: We accurately describe, to the best of our ability, all items placed up for auction.  We will never intentionally misrepresent any item.  All items are new unless otherwise noted.  As part of federal guidelines for consumer protection, if this item fails to meet your expectations you have the right to return this product within 30 days.  It will be the buyer’s responsibility to ship it back to us in proper condition.  We recommend in this instance, that you PLEASE repack the product VERY carefully in the original packing container with it’s packing materials. We are currently using UPS as our main shipping carrier.  However, if you are not able to ship the package by yourselves, Fedex has a pick up service called “Call Tag”.  You would need to let us know that you require that service and we'll issue a call tag (there is an additional Fedex call tag fee of $5.75).  If we receive the returned product in proper conditions, we'll refund the product price.
We'll accept product returns liability
only if the product is defective. We'll determine that the product is defective only after we inspect it after it comes back. Not liking a product or it not matching your décor is not part of our definition of “defective”.  Defective means something that it's clearly wrong to most people.  Please note that the freight charges are not refundable.

Damages: If the product gets damaged during shipping we require that you report the damage to us no longer than 3 days after receiving the package and that the original box with it's packaging materials be saved to repack the package since both UPS and Fedex will pick up the damaged parcel to inspect it.  Taking too long to report the damage or to no longer have the original box will result in the rejection of the damage claim by both UPS or Fedex which means that we wont be able to issue a refund or credit for the damage product.  To execute a successful damage claim with UPS or Fedex it is imperative that you  follow these procedures.  Normally, when a damaged product gets reported on time, we either reship a replacement item or issue a refund of all charges.

Feedback: We love feedback as much as the next eBayer!    However, we do use an automated service which returns all feedback left.  So – you leave feedback – so will we.

A note from the management: As you can see, we are SUPER easy to deal with... you pay, we ship.   We are happy, you are happy!    Simple ....   If you are not happy – we want to hear from you !   Our goal is to provide you with products that you want, at the most reasonable pricing – and if we’re not doing that – please let us know – we’d like the opportunity to try and fix it.

Contact us :  If you have any questions about anything – either up for auction, or in our store – please contact us at the following.  And yes – there is a “live” person most of the time – if a message is left, all calls will be returned.
