Vintage Hand Carved Wooden Soldier with Cape & Sword

This colorful hand carved soldier has a sword and cape. His uniform looks 19th century European - Italian or Spanish would be my guess, or he could be Mexican. He stands a fraction over 9 inches high. There is a signature on the bottom, but it's too faint to make out - it looks like ''Pomclia''. Good condition, carved with skill and humor!
