Paul Krapf
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Born in western Pennsylvania, Krapf cannot remember when he didn't draw and try to make things look real. He began to use oil paints at age ten with a set given to him by his aunt and uncle. Krapf was privileged to have a good art teacher in high school and went on to study at ARt Institute of Pittsburgh where he once again enjoyed the instruction of a fine teacher, Angelo Di Vincenzo, from whom he probably learned more than from any other person.
Unable to find employment as a commercial artist, Krapf took a job as an electrical draftsman, became an electrical designer, remaining in that field for over thirty years. During those years, he continued to draw and paint in his spare time. IN 1963, the Krapf family made their first trip to the West. From then on, Paul's work began to be of more western subject matter and the desire to live in that area was strong. In 1980, with the encouragement of his wife, Fonda, Paul quit his job of eighteen years with NASA and became an artist full time. In 1981, the Krapfs' were able to move to Montana and build their home and studio just north of Yellowstone National Park, along the Yellowstone River.
