Cinema Smooth light engine
Samsung is a leader in creating light engines that harness DLP HDTV technology from Texas Instruments. The Cinema Smooth light engine in the HL72A650 creates a brilliant picture that's more lifelike and much closer to film quality than previous technologies. DLP chips from Texas Instruments
Samsung employs a Texas Instruments DLP chip in the HL72A650 that is comprised of millions of microscopic mirrors. The DLP chip is faster than any other HDTV technology, with the mirrors switching on and off 15,000 times a second to deliver a razor-sharp picture for fast moving images. When combined with Samsung's Cinema Smooth 120Hz light engine, the result is a crisp, bright picture with deep, rich colors that's closer to film.
3D HDTV
Now television is more immersive than ever. The HL72A650 is 3D-enabled, making you feel like you're part of the action. See the future of HD through liquid crystal shutter 3D glasses (also known as active glasses). Samsung's 3D-enabled HDTVs, which play at 120 frames per second, deliver two separate streams of 3D video; one to the left eye, the other to the right. This syncs up with active glasses, which alternate images between the two eyes at a speed of 120th of a second, so you enjoy 3D video without any distracting flicker. These groundbreaking 3D capabilities work in conjunction with the TriDef 3D experience to produce images that leap off the screen. This includes the software, which must be installed on a connected PC, along with two pairs of active glasses (since this is an experience you'll want to share). What can you watch in 3D? More than you can imagine. For starters, there are a growing variety of 3D movies and games. The TriDef 3D also converts your favorite 2D DVDs, family photographs, even the Internet, into 3D automatically.
Three HDMI inputs
Three High Definition Mutlimedia Interface (HDMI) connections make your DLP HDTV a multimedia centerpiece. Connect HD digital devices like disc players, game consoles, and satellite dish components using the two rear connnections and use the side-mounted input for cameras, camcorders, and laptops.
