If you've been looking for an instant espresso powder for recipes, this is it. It is called instant espresso coffee and has an excellent fine, powderlike texture. Great for baking and drinking.
Note: this will dissolve in cold liquids too which gives endless possibilties. When mixed with a cold soda or chilled ice cream mixture it appears to clump at first, but, just walk away, as Alton Brown would say, and it will disolve without over mixing.!!
Any Chocolate recipe can be enhanced by adding a small quantity of instant espresso. A tablespoon to a batch of brownies enhances the chocolate taste without tasting like coffee. Of course I would add an ounce to make mocha brownies. A teaspoon to a gnache makes a richer tort coating. You can also make the best truffles using this technique.
You are purchasing; one 2-ounce jar of Medaglia D'Oro instant espresso coffee(powder).
Recipe Ideas:
This stuff makes the best Coffee Ice Cream. Since water gives your ice cream a sandy texture, powder is the only way to go. I use the simple Condensed Milk recipe (or use your favorite) with up to 1/2 jar per gallon of ice cream. You can also add a small amount to your favorite Dark Rye Bread recipe for a darker color and a richer taste. Here is a unique one - since Coke Blak is so expensive add this to a can of regular or diet cola (in a large pitcher because it will foam) then pour over ice. I also use this as a repair kit for bad office coffee - just add a spoon to your cup before you use your company's freshly brewed, but too weak coffee. You can really bring out the coffee flavor in a Tramisu recipe with this stuff. Add this to your basic cream cheese frosting recipe and ice some fresh baked scones - Yummo! (as Rachel Ray would say); can't do that with brewed coffee or espresso.
