This is a beautiful cold hardy 14°F (-10°C)
 evergreen palm that is very easy to grow. It is also drought tolerant. I have these planted around my husbands office.(see picture - this is one of the actual mother plants  and they are about 12 years old.)  I live in zone 7b in the foothills/peidmont of South Carolina and our fairly cold winters and late frost have never harmed my Pindos. I've heard of them growing in zones much further north than I am. 
Like many palms, the pindo produces an elaborate flowering structure called an inflorescence - the orange fruit forms on these structures after the female flowers have been pollinated. In the deep south, jelly and wine is made from these fruits.The palm fruit is often called pindo dates in the south. In Uruguay, it is also macerated in alcohol to make a popular liquor. The ground seed can also be roasted to make an imitation of coffee.They have a terrific taste that starts out like apple and transforms to tart tropical flavors.
 
These beautiful feather palm trees have long pinnate leaves that arch and recurve towards the ground from atop a thick stout trunk. The trunk can grow to 20 feet, but normally reaches 12 to 15 feet with a diameter of 1 to 1.5 feet. Typically, the old leaf stalks (boots) persist for years. Leaves range from light green to bluish gray and grow 5 to 10 feet long. The leaf stems range from about 2 to 4 feet in length and have spines along both edges. These palms vary in form. Specimens raised in dry and/or infertile soils tend to be smaller in stature with smaller leaves. Light also affects the plant's form while those grown in full sun are more compact.
Excellent small-scale palm tree. Beautiful specimen for lanscapes, especially around pools for a tropical look. Perfect size for container gardening. Containers can be taken in, or protected for northern gardeners.

Growing Instructions
 
Plant them where they will get the full morning sun in well drained potting medium. I use a little sand with my potting soil as this helps with drainiage. Don't plant the seedlings too deep, plant to just above the root. Accommodate your plant as needed with a larger pot until well established.When you are ready to plant out, make sure you do it during the beginning growing season late spring, to make sure they get a bit of a head start in the ground and the winter won't be as harsh to your young palm tree. Plant about 12' apart. Pindo's are a little slow growing but well worth the wait! 
 
Aftercare Instructions

Yellowing or damaged fronds should be removed. Full sun produces best growth and flowering results. Can tolerate some shade. Soil should be kept moist, but not wet, especially during the growing season.
