"Ptychosperma cuneatum"

Habitat: The understory rainforest of Papua New Guinea.

Description: The cuneatum has a slender trunk that can reach heights of 15 feet. The palm leafs resemble those of the fishtail species. The leaves are staggered from left to right as they ascend up the branches. The new leafs emerge with a red color that slowly fades from the top of the leaf but seems to last longer on the underside of them.

Culture: This palm needs a shady area that will stay moist and well drained. It can slowly take more full sun as it grows larger, but should always have plenty of shade. The palm is pretty easy to grow, and dose not take much special attention.

Seedling: The seedling is pretty tall and decently rooted into its 4” pot. It should be stepped up into a 1 or 3 gallon pot in a month or so. It is 8-12” tall with 3-4 leaves.
