Mardi Gras Holiday Collectible Celebration Note
Our Mardi Gras commemorative bills celebrate the festive atmosphere of New Orleans. Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday in French) is a carnival that is celebrated on, or ends on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. Traditionally, on that day households consume all of the remaining foods that would be forbidden to be eaten during Lent. Mardi Gras is a one-day event in France, but in New Orleans, settled by the French, it last several days, and is marked by parades, street celebrations, and extravagant costumes. The French explorer, Iberville, introduced the Mardi Gras celebration to America in 1699.
