High Efficiency 150 Watt Metal Halide Aquarium Light
It's a Virgin Light: w/Top Quality New Ballast, New Lamp & New Reflector
It's priced so low! How much money will you lose trying to fix a "discarded" light that someone "refurbished" into a "new" aquarium light when it blows out? You wouldn’t buy used spark plugs, would you?…. So why buy a discarded light fixture that someone “refurbished” into an aquarium light?
Benefits:
Spacious Reflector Gives More Light!
Our reflector has lots of
space around the bulb. This efficiently lets the light out. Common
aquarium fixtures often cram the bulb in a little slot. So the light
you are paying for gets trapped!
We also mount the bulb
vertical. A little known secret is that most metal halide bulbs
“prefer” to operate vertical. Run them horizontal and they don’t make
as much light and they don’t last as long.
Light your Tank, not your walls!
Often
your will see low grade aquarium lights with open ended reflectors.
Light escapes out right out the ends of the reflector and hit’s your
walls, it never even gets into the tank. You simply do not get the
light you are paying for.
On the
other hand, our reflector surrounds all sides of the bulb to capture
and reflect light down in the aquarium, right where it belongs.
Don’t burn your Eye’s Out!
Another disadvantage to
crummy open ended fixtures that you see on Ebay is that they leave the
bulb exposed for you to see. It’s like looking at an electric welder.
How much are your eye’s worth?
Sparking Blue White 14000K Spectrum
This lamp provides the deep penetration needed to simulate deep blue ocean.
Why fry your Fish?
Because our light makes more light using less energy, less heat is put into the tank!
Our Fixture has the Correct Ballast!
Here’s the dirty little secret:
If
you buy an aquarium light fixture elsewhere, it’s likely that the
ballast inside the fixture is not designed to properly run the bulb.
Aquarium bulbs come from largely offshore. The types of ballasts used
in Asia differ from their North American counterparts. Quite often the
open circuit voltages of American Ballasts are just too high. The most
common aquarium lamps have integral starters that get burned out. I
have seen this happen over and over again.
Because
it’s almost impossible to get 120 volt Japanese ballasts, the
unscrupulous or unknowing fixture sellers just use the wrong ballast
anyway.
We supply
our fixtures with a pulse start bulb that is matched with a pulse start
ballast. Pulse start bulbs are much brighter than regular metal halide
bulbs of the same wattage. The problem is that pulse start bulbs will
start on regular metal halide ballasts. They won’t last long since the
voltage spikes delivered by a conventional ballast erode away the bulbs
electrodes. Unfortunately, pet shop and aquarium store owners I’ve met
don’t know all the differences between the different types of bulbs and
ballasts. So the wrong bulbs and fixtures get mated. I don’t blame pet
shop owners too much, most probably just don’t have the time to study
up on this.
Features:
This fixture uses a TOP NOTCH USA ballast.
It's Easy to Use! It Plugs into a standard household outlet! Remote Ballast, Fixture Head Hangs by Bail!
Remote Ballast for Maximum Product Life!
Heat kills ballasts! The ballast & igniter are what start and operate the bulb. Rather
than cram a ballast in a little box with a hot burning lamp, we
separate the awkward electric components in a remote ballast enclosure.
Easy to use and Store
The light weight fixture
head is easy to position, while the heavy bulky ballast enclosure sits
on the ground. The fixture cord nicely wraps around a nice set of
plated ears.
All New Electricals All this is new:
(1) Low Heat Linear 150 watt Pulse Start Metal Halide ballast (It
uses 25 watts less than competitive ballasts). This ballast’s
laminations are vacuum impregnated with insulation to optimize cooling
and generate about lowest sound rating in the industry. Cheaper cores are just slopped full of orange varnish that’s
prone to have air bubbles. The high temperature igniter (105 C) is the
big bottle type, not the little bolt on type that can cause problems.
This is the most reliable 150 watt ballast we’ve ever used!
(2) 150 w, 14000K Pulse Start Metal Halide medium base bulb (we have 10000K or 20000K available as well under other store listings - please check them out!)
(3) Heavy Gauge Power Cord
(4) Remote fixture head with ceramic socket and cord set.
(5) Plated cord storage ears
The only thing that is not brand spanking new, 1st quality, is the ballast case. They were blemished when we got them. But we repainted them to save you $$$.
Our Spacious Complete Reflector puts Light in the Tank!
Look at the aquarium "lights"
that are being cobbled together and sold here. Many of them have open
ends. Light flies out the ends and hits your walls. Do you want to
light up your room or your tank? Very
little consideration seems to be given to how light ricochets off of a
reflector and out the ends either and on your walls. What a waste!
Other guys put a
reflector in a box. This is an improvement, but light still gets
trapped in internal reflections, bouncing back and forth between the
ends of the box or the ends and the reflector or the reflector with
it's self. The optical efficiency of these "shoe box" lights is so poor
that hardly anyone in the lighting industry publishes the numbers.
Typically only 40 to 60% of the light generated by the arc gets out of
the fixture. You are simply not getting the light you are paying for.
On the other hand, spun
reflectors, like the one this fixture uses, are not perfect. But they
deliver about 76% of the light from the arc. And they are able to
concentrate the light straight down into your aquarium.

You wouldn’t buy used spark plugs, would you?…. So why buy a discarded light fixture that someone “refurbished” into an aquarium light?
Light
fixtures don’t last forever. Eventually the ballasts blow out. That’s
why we use all new ballasts, lamps, and electricals of the highest
quality. Yet some guys, looking for the quick buck, buy up discarded industrial light fixtures and convert them into aquarium lights-- calling them "refurbished".
In general, you are looking for trouble if you buy an aquarium light made from discarded fixture parts. The hot high ceilings in industrial plants are very hard on the ballasts.
Consider where these discarded light fixtures come from. As
ballasts fail, it reaches a point where it’s cheaper to buy all new
light fixtures than fix the old. As many customers complain, it’s often
cheaper to buy a whole new light fixture than to buy a replacement
ballast. It is simply not cost effective to hire high priced electrical
contractors or rent lifts to maintain fixtures.
Savvy building owners often evade waste disposal regulations by dumping their old
light fixtures for cheap rather than recycle them. So there is a ready
supply of nearly burned out light fixtures available for you to buy as "refurbished" grow lights.
We hope we can help you out with this great light. It certainly is a compact and powerful unit!
